2006

Winter Greetings!

(Thank goodness for this amazing snowstorm, it allowed me to finally sit down and finish this newsletter...)

Chinese philosophy speaks of the Winter season as the most Yin aspect of the cycle of seasons. Yin is the aspect of life that is still, quiet, receptive, dark, cold and deep. Winter is at the bottom where the Qi, or life force, rests quietly and gathers power for the upward swing of the cycle called Spring. As we leave the fall and head into the winter season, we feel the presence of the season in the shadows of the long nights, in the depth of the dark.

This is the season to gather our resources and prepare for life changes by gathering information, looking at options, dreaming and meditating.

The emotion that corresponds to winter is fear. When in balance fear is healthy (fight or flight mechanism) when not in balance, fear can be an obsession and obstruction. The element that corresponds to winter is water. In nature- water can be still and calm, but can also become fierce and destructive. As we observe this element in correspondence to our life, like water, we have the ability face an obstacle and create a new path-to go with the flow, or, to act with force and power and damage or destroy the obstacle.

Exercise and extra sleep and quiet time are recommended in order to preserve good quality Qi in the winter. Good Qi providing Winter meals consist of well-cooked foods such as root vegetables, wintergreens, salty foods like miso, a extra meat for meat eaters, and warming herbs and spices like ginger, chili peppers, and cinnamon.

I wanted to wish you a vital year, full of creativity   and expression. I wish for you to always see, and be thankful for the littlest things that bring you joy. Thank you for your support and for choosing me as your self-care provider. I am always happy to be there for you, whether it’s a session for your body or for your soul.

2006 NEWS:

Hot Stone Massage:

For some of you this is news, but a lot of you have already taken advantage of this unique massage experience. This is an ancient massage technique using warmed smooth river or lava stones. The penetrating warmth of the stones loosens the muscles preparing the body for a deeper massage experience. Stone massage offers a unique connection with nature, promotes detoxification, and a sense of profound deep healing and groundedness. Take time this winter to treat yourself or your loved ones to an amazing Hot Stone massage!

New Breast Cancer support group:

As you know I am dedicated to working with breast cancer patients and to teaching this work to other massage therapists.

I was invited by my friend Bethany Arronow to co-facilitate a support group for breast cancer survivors. The group meets every third Thursday of the month at Health Links 3434 47th St. in Boulder from 6:30- 8:00. Our goal for this group is to focus on the healing process rather than the disease. We will include meditation and visualization as well as provide info and recourses and emotional support. If you know of anyone who can benefit from this group please pass this information along. There is no cost to attend.

On a personal note:

A lot of endings are up for me this year- Ana, my daughter is in her last year of High school… yes, it’s true! And Mimi and Susu are on their last year of elementary school… no, I am not joking!

As for me, I just taught my last Shiatsu class (…I think)!!! It makes me sad to think that I will not take another group of students through the magical discovery of healing and bodywork, but I am realizing that the personal demands in conducting a class like this are very high, and I have chosen at this time, to direct my energy to my family and clients.

Earlier, I wished for your life to be creative, I was inspired to wish you that because I recently found and venue of creativity that enriches me in so many ways. I hope that you will get a chance to watch one of our playback theater performances. If you would like to know about our performances please email me at eeris@bodyworkwisdom.com.
