Dear clients and friends, Happy 2008!

In August this year I will mark my 20th year anniversary of my graduation from the Boulder School of Massage Therapy.

It’s really hard for me to fathom the idea I have been doing something for a whole twenty years, I mean, it’s not like I was a baby when I started!

I must say though, that becoming a massage therapist was the best decision I ever made. Quite surprising for a twenty something year old… I couldn’t be happier with my career decision.

Many times I am asked if massage isn’t too physically demanding, if I don’t get tired of my work, from being on my feet all day and constantly touching people. The truth is I feel my work is much more than that. I touch more than just bodies, I touch life. I touch spirit. I touch the depth of who you are and that’s what keeps me going. The connection I make with each of you, whether you are a “regular” or an occasional client, I look forward to being part of your life and you being part of mine.

In the last few years I’ve had a great deal of growth spiritually and professionally and I can only attribute it to your dedication and trust in me. I am full of gratitude for that.

SO, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

On a personal note:

2007 was a significant year of transitions- Ana, my oldest, graduated from high school and moved to Flagstaff Arizona to go to college. Yes, Wow is right! Mimi and Susu my 11year old twins graduated from BCSIS elementary school, and now are at Horizons middle school. We are all still adjusting to these big changes. The difference is apparent to me especially during parent/teacher conferences, where I look around me and wonder- “where did all the young parents go?” and “Do I look that mature?” J

On a professional note:

 All Natural lotion:

A cosmetician once said to me that one should not put anything on their skin that they can not actually eat.  After reading lots of labels and not liking what I see, I decided to make my own massage lotion. I am very proud of my product and happy to inform you that I am using only natural ingredients including Almond oil, Cocoa butter, Shea butter, Coconut oil as emollients and for rehydration, Bees Wax, vitamin E, purified water and Borax, a mineral used as an emulsifier and antiseptic. I also add essential oils for fragrance and as natural preservatives. No poisonous preservatives or unhealthy junk for you!

Breast cancer support group:

I am still co facilitating a Y-Me breast cancer support group that meets once a month. If you know of someone that can use some comfort, support and information about resources, have them call me for location and times!

 What is Core Alignment Technique?

A few years a go, I developed Core Alignment. It is a specialized technique, good for people with low back pain, scoliosis, spinal stenosis, as well as neck and shoulder pain and stiffness. The emphasis is on releasing blockages in the pelvis or shoulders, and aligning your spine. It will improve movement restriction and increase your lower back flexibility.  This technique uses slow, repetitive, range-of-motion type movement.  It is a unique mixture of Feldenkrais exercises, Shiatsu stretches and Energy Work. I get a lot of positive results using this technique. Check it out!

Shiatsu, Five Elements and the Zang-fu Organs:
As a Zen Shiatsu practitioner, I can check your specific energy flow (Ki/Chi), which runs in channels that relate to organs. However, if your liver energy is low for example, it does not necessarily mean that there is something wrong with your liver, but we look at the liver in relationship to nature and your life.

The liver is said to preside over the vigorous flow of Ki (Chi) and also has the function of ensuring free Ki circulation. Since these characteristics are similar to the properties of wood, the liver is categorized as wood. The season that is associated with liver is spring, the energy of sprouting and growth. The lung has clearing and descending properties and is associated with the metal element's characteristics of clearing and astringency. The season is fall, which is about change and letting go. The Heart has a warming action so it belongs to the category of the fire element, and it is associated with summer.

The spleen is the source of transformation of essential substances and is associated with the earth element's characteristics of growth and transformation. The time that is associated with Spleen is the transitions between each season. The kidney has the function of controlling water metabolism and storing essence and is associated with the water element's characteristics of moistening and flowing downward, the season is winter- when we tend to stay inside and be more introverted.

I find it fascinating to understand your body through understanding the flow of nature. Sometimes Chinese medicine seems very mysterious but looking deeper and understanding that we are not separated from nature, that the cycles of nature are a metaphor for life, that whatever is happening outside of our bodies in nature is happening inside of us as well, then suddenly it’s not as mysterious, suddenly things become simple and they make sense.

I wish for you Joy and Peace every day, Laughter and Grace each moment, Love and total Fulfillment every breath, All Happiness and Good Health!

Happy New Year!
